About the role
We are seeking a passionate Safety Technician to join our dynamic team at H2O. This entry-level position offers a unique opportunity to launch or pivot into a growing, in-demand career field without prior HSE experience required.
Responsibilities
- Assist with field inspections and audits to identify safety and compliance risks
- Support the development and maintenance of compliance programs, including permits, plans, and records as required by local regulatory agencies
- Learn and stay current on relevant regulations, including OSHA Regulations, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and other applicable laws
- Assist in providing guidance related to client requirements, local regulations, and company policy
- Support front-line staff through coaching and knowledge-sharing
- Help develop hazard assessments, permits (trenching, excavation, flagging), fall protection plans, confined space entry plans, JSAs, etc., under guidance
- Participate in incident investigations and track corrective actions
- Absorb Workers Compensation claims follow-up and return-to-work processes
- Compile statistical data and reports
- Support safety/compliance meetings
- Assist internal and external stakeholders during regulatory inspections
- Support local training initiatives and HSE/compliance projects
- Contribute to ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 compliance efforts
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by upper management
Requirements
We are looking for candidates who have:
- An interest in Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance
- A high school diploma or GED
- A valid driver's license
- Familiarity with computers (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)
- Proactive, entrepreneurial mindset and eagerness to learn
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Certifications in Safety or Water/Wastewater (ASP, CSP, CHST, OHST, CIH, CWP, CWO, CES, etc.) are an asset
- Knowledge of water/wastewater treatment processes is an asset
- Background in public works, electrical safety, pesticide application, process safety, or heavy equipment is an asset
