About the role
The Plant H&S (Health and Safety) Specialist is a key position at Johns Manville, a global leader in insulation and roofing solutions. This role is based in Penbryn/Berlin, NJ, where the candidate will play a crucial part in driving continuous improvement in safety and health performance.
Responsibilities
- Supports and promotes safe practices in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements.
- Acts as an OSHA regulatory compliance resource.
- Led or participates in incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Establishes and drives continuous improvement in safety monitoring and recordkeeping systems.
- Develops action plans for safety activities and coordinates the Safety Committee team.
- Facilitates safety and health training for all plant personnel.
- Ensures compliance with all safety and health policies, procedures, and programs.
- Supports plant initiatives towards Lean, Kaizen, Cost Reduction, 5S, and other facility improvements.
- Assists in workers compensation cases.
- Serves as training coordinator for all H&S-related trainings.
Requirements
- One of the following: Associates degree (Safety and Health or Environmental preferred), Professional certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, Recognized professional certification in Occupational Health & Safety, or Industrial Hygiene.
- Prior Safety Specific Training (OSHA 30 Hour, Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health, etc.)
- Two years’ experience in a safety role in an industrial or manufacturing setting or four years of relevant industrial or manufacturing experience in a JM facility.
- Comfortable working in a plant environment.
- Working knowledge of federal safety and health laws (e.g. OSHA, EPA, etc.).
- Ability to work with respective outside agencies and contracted employees.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Ability to use a variety of software applications to analyze, monitor data, create reports, and presentations.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, extensive walking, confined spaces, wear a respirator (if applicable) and handle exposures to hot/cold environments.
- Excellent communication, training and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated Root-Cause analysis skills (RCCA, 5-Why).
- Leadership skills to direct personnel, implement initiatives, supervising teams, and performing follow-up activities.
- Analytical ability to assess complex situations and apply problem-solving strategies.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to be on call, as needed 24/7.
- Ability to travel up to 5%.
Qualifications
- Professional Certifications in Safety, Environmental or Occupational Health (e.g. ASP, CSP, CIH, OHST, SMS, CEM, CHMM, etc.)

Pay
$71,300.00 - $98,000.00 Annual
Schedule
Full-time, 40 hours per week.
