Safety Specialist

About the role

Diversified Safety Services is seeking an experienced Site Safety Specialist to join our team and support a construction project in Lakeland, FL. This role offers the opportunity to play a critical role in driving a culture of safety, ensuring compliance, and fostering a proactive approach to workplace health and safety on a large-scale, high-visibility project.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and enforce health and safety policies that build a safe, proactive jobsite environment.
• Design and implement safety programs, plans, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
• Track safety compliance, document findings, and communicate updates.
• Spot risks early, recommend solutions, and ensure preventive measures are put in place.
• Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions to keep teams engaged and aligned.
• Maintain regular on-site presence, participate in project meetings, and provide proactive safety guidance.
• Verify that all work follows approved manuals, internal procedures, and contract requirements.
• Keep accurate logs of inspections, reports, and safety correspondence.
• Supervise subcontractors and contractors to ensure work meets EHS requirements.
• Conduct investigations for accidents, incidents, and near misses; follow through on corrective actions.
• Ensure proper use of PPE and compliance with safety procedures at all times.
• Contribute to additional safety initiatives and requirements as needed.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on construction safety experience.
• 3+ years experience on construction/demolition projects.
• OSHA 510 is required.
• First Aid/CPR/AED is required.
• Bilingual is strongly preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA guidelines, regulations, and safety programs.
• Ability to produce clear reports, develop procedures, and implement effective safety solutions.
• Excellent hazard recognition, data analysis, and risk assessment skills.
• Strong organizational, leadership, and communication abilities.
• Professional presence on-site and ability to lead teams through incidents or emergencies with composure.
