Responsibilities
- Promote a safe workplace without risk to health
- Ensure the workplace satisfies health and safety requirements
- Proactively prevent and precautions against, or adequate control of, exposure to hazardous substances, and danger from flammable, explosive, electrical, noise, radiation and manual handling risks
- Investigate accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventable measures
- Report or review findings from accident investigations and facilities inspections
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance
- Work with the Safety Manager to conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment
- Interview employers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents
- Communicate safety policies with customers
- Act as safety resource contact for site managers on multiple projects / jobs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- A valid driver’s license required
- A high school diploma or equivalent required
- A bachelor’s degree in safety related program preferred
- A minimum of 5 years work experience in safety and/or compliance functions required
- Prior experience in ash management, waste, civil-type construction or related environment preferred
- An OSHA 510 certification required
- A familiarity with OSHA 1926 standards and requirements
- A working knowledge of heavy equipment and excavation safety
- A knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions
- An experience with Microsoft Office Suite required
Position Requirements
- Ability to use electronic equipment such as computer, cell phone and handheld radio for communication with supervisors and co-workers
- A flexible work schedule: nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to climb, maintain body equilibrium, reach, grasp, bend and walk/stand/sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to hear and see naturally or with correction
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Subject to loud noises
- Subject to atmospheric conditions - one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odor, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
- This position requires working in the internal and external environment
- Ability to work independently and as a team
- Ability to work under pressure with time constraints in a changing environment
- Effective communication skills
