Pay

$33,820.80 – $88,069.96 per year.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining a safety program with applicable rules and regulations.
• Promote safety awareness programs, including implementation of safety training.
• Assist in developing methods, procedures, and practices to prevent accidents.
• Investigate claims to determine validity and root causes of injuries.
• Work with Departmental personnel to formulate employee/management safety committees to identify and eliminate hazardous conditions.
• Prepare weekly reports identifying areas with high rates of injury.
• Perform ergonomic assessments in conjunction with the Bureau of Worker’s Compensation Safety & Hygiene Division.
• Identify best practices for injury prevention and Worker’s Compensation cost containment.
• Identify transitional work positions within the Division.
• Perform surveillance to prevent abuse of the Worker’s Compensation system when applicable.
• Ensure employee compliance with all safety programs.
• Develop safety manuals and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
• Perform other job-related duties as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Business/Public Administration, or a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Two years of management experience in the administration of safety and/or worker’s compensation programs.
• Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License.
• Strong computer and technical writing skills.
• Ability to wear and utilize required safety equipment such as respirators, hearing protection, or fall restraining harnesses as required by applicable regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to obtain CHST, OHST, or ASP certification through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals within one year of appointment.
• HAZWOPER certification within one year of appointment.

Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) Preference Credit

Applicants who are graduates of CMSD and participate in an open competitive entrance-level examination receive an additional five points upon achieving a passing score. Acceptable proof of graduation must be provided at the time of application.

Veterans’ Preference

Veterans’ preference will be awarded in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F, and 4.40G. Eligible veterans receive five additional points; veterans with more than 15% service-connected disability receive ten additional points. Proof of active service or DD Form 214 must be presented at the time of application.
