Safety Intern/CoOp
About the role
Ameren is a leader in the energy industry, transforming toward more clean, renewable energy while serving local communities. As a Safety Intern, you will support Ameren business segments in reducing injuries and illnesses, with a focus on soft-tissue and ergonomic risk reduction. This role employs scientific techniques and problem-solving skills to ensure systems, tasks, equipment, and facilities prioritize health and safety for co-workers.
Available as a January–August 2027 Co-Op opportunity.
Responsibilities
- Analyze soft tissue injury records to identify trends for targeted interventions.
- Evaluate interactions between co-workers and machinery/equipment.
- Assess the impact of work environments on co-workers.
- Identify and assist in implementing improvements.
- Provide information, advice, and recommendations to the Ameren Safety department.
- Compile and present professional reports and verbal communications.
- Collaborate with health specialists and designers.
- Assist in investigating soft tissue injuries and illnesses.
Requirements
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, or ergonomics from an accredited program with a GPA of 2.5 or above.
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle required.
- Preferred residence in the St. Louis Metropolitan area, Missouri, Illinois, or Iowa, with willingness to travel.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and other regulatory agency standards.
- Proficiency with MS Office preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
This position involves a standard work week in office and field environments, with occasional overtime (evenings, weekends) and potential overnight travel. Support may be required during outages, storms, or emergencies, including extended hours, weekends, and holidays.

- Direct supervision and participation in a geographically dispersed team environment, often requiring virtual meetings.
Pay
Compensation ranges from $21.00 to $30.00 per hour, determined by skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity.
