About the role
AECOM is seeking a Safety, Health & Environmental Officer II for an onsite role based in New York, NY.
Responsibilities
- Implementing the requirements of AECOM’s Construction Manager’s (CM) EHS Management Plan (EHSMP) and Environmental Health and Safety Plan (EHASP)
- Supporting the CM in preparation of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) in accordance with Client standards
- Supporting the CM in conducting various training for CM staff including new employee orientations, visitor orientations and Emergency Action Plan training
- Reviewing all EHS related submittals by the Contractors, including, but not limited to, EHASPs, JHAs, monthly reports, asbestos/lead/mercury/PCB management and sampling plans, waste management plans, soil re-use, hazardous waste contingency plans, erosion and sediment control plans, and Stormwater Pollution Prevent Plans (SWPPP) to verify comprehensive oversight of all site activities
- Facilitating weekly EHS meetings with the Contractor’s EHS Representative (EHSR), and other project management personnel as appropriate, to ascertain and discuss upcoming construction related activity EHS activities
- Conducting frequent construction site visits
- Tracking and monitoring the Contractor’s compliance with EHASP(s) and JHA(s)
- Tracking and monitoring all site EHSRs’ performance including, but not limited to, reviewing the EHSR’s daily reports and whether EHS issues are being adequately addressed
- Performing and submitting daily reports of the Contractors’ Work areas and documenting non-compliance with the Contractor’s EHASPs and JHAs
- Reviewing Contractor’s incident reports for adequacy, participating in meetings related to construction related incidents, and verifying all necessary Contractor corrective actions are implemented
- Submitting EHS monthly status reports and metrics
- Preparing monthly trending analysis of Contractor EHS performance
- Overseeing Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and drills for the site in coordination with Client staff
- Reviewing and managing all EHS Annual Reports (i.e., EPCRA, Hazardous Waste, Confined Space)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Engineering or related degree plus 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Preferred: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification, 10 years of relevant EHS field and management experience in construction, preferably experience in underground construction & tunneling, familiarity and experience with NYCDEP safety and health regulations, OSHA 10-hour Construction Health and Safety Course (30-hour Preferable), Initial and Annual Refresher OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120/1926.65 HAZWOPER, Knowledgeable in OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and 1910 Regulations, Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certifications

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $135,000 to $165,000 per year.
