Safety & Environmental Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Overall communication with team
- Maintenance of Safety Committee [SC] schedule
- Lead SC walk-through inspections and participate in Safety meetings
- Primary BasicSafe coordinator
- Lead plant Safety audits
- Coordinate HAZ waste disposal, EGLE testing
- Coordinate with outside contractors working with maintenance department
- Coordinate emergency response drills
- Coordinate outside trainings
- Advocate for Building Safety Into Projects (BSIP)
- Have a strong influence in plant Safety culture
- Ensure completion of Risk Mitigation training and documentation
- Administer and maintain complete and audited documentation within BasicSafe database
- Perform safety and environmental audits/inspections both on and off site
- Ensure follow through of identified corrective action items
- Represent safety and environmental in all Capital and Non-Capital projects
About the Role
Provides Munising Hardwood Lumber and Hardwood Veneer with overall coordination of Safety, Health and Environmental initiatives, policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
Coordinates training, incident investigations, audits, policy development and implementation.
Provides overall guidance to ensure compliance with state and federal Safety, Health and Environmental regulations.
Works diligently as a member of the Plant Management team.
Provides technical Safety and Environmental support to production and personnel at the Munising Plant.
Acts as a mentor and promoter of Safety, Health and Environmental concerns.
Maintains an active presence on the floor to monitor safety and environmental practices, answer employee questions, understand all equipment and associated safety and environmental features.
Develops Safety, Health and Environmental programs and objectives and coordinates Safety and Environmental training programs, including mandated MIOSHA training and supports Plant Safety Committee.

Monitors Safety, Health and Environmental regulations and provides technical support to Plant Management and personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state safety, health and environmental regulations, PIPP and corporate policy.
Requirements
BA/BS degree in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), Business Administration, Operations Management, Environmental Management or related field.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for a degree.
3+ years of Wood Products or other manufacturing environment preferred.
PE/CSP/CIH/ASP a plus.
Skills
Computer skills required, including the ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.), and the ability to learn and use company specific software, including, mPulse, BasicSafe, as well as others that may be introduced.
