Safety Coordinator

Earthworks Inc. is seeking a bilingual (English/Spanish) Safety Coordinator to ensure all field employees are fully trained on equipment and perform their duties safely and effectively.

About the Role

The Safety Coordinator delivers and participates in training programs for new and existing employees. They develop training objectives, curriculum, outlines, handouts, tests, and exercises to ensure employees maintain proper equipment operation and compliance with safety regulations.

Primary Objectives

• Discuss the importance of safety and awareness, including proper hydration, clothing, footwear, lifting techniques, and vigilance for others' safety.
• Train new hires on the proper use of all equipment (except riding mowers) and hand tools, including techniques for pruning, cutbacks, digging, vine, and weed removal.
• Train new hires on proper fueling, storage protocols, and chemical safety, including the correct mixing and use of herbicides like Roundup.
• Set high expectations for quality of work, emphasizing that tasks should be done correctly the first time.
• Establish expectations for workload and pace when assigning employees to crews, emphasizing teamwork and respect.
• Explain protocols for addressing employee issues or grievances and how to seek resolution.
• Introduce and hand off new employees to their assigned crew or foreman in person.

Additional Responsibilities

• Assist with dispatching maintenance crews and provide field training on days without new hire training.
• Actively foster and improve morale and teamwork among field staff.

Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Experience: 1 year in landscape maintenance (required); 1 year in management (preferred).
• Language: Fluency in English and Spanish (required).
• Driver’s License (required).
