Safety Coordinator

Job Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with site leadership and operations teams to implement OSHA and other requirements and reinforce safety culture
  • Partner with Transportation, Human Resources, and Facilities to build safe work practices into daily operations, working side by side with supervisors to solve safety problems together
  • Conduct and document routine site inspections and audits, identify hazards and risk conditions, and ensure corrective actions are assigned, implemented, and closed out in a timely manner
  • Support compliance with OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, and environmental regulations, including OSHA 300/300A recordkeeping and driver qualification files
  • Support incident and near-miss investigations, documenting findings meticulously, identifying root causes, and following up on corrective action plans
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for safety communications: deliver toolbox talks, cascade critical information from the Safety Manager to frontline teams, and support targeted training initiatives and emergency preparedness activities, as applicable
  • Deliver new hire safety orientation and recurring training on forklift safety, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, and ergonomics
  • Chair the safety committee, including scheduling, agenda development, meeting minutes, and action item tracking
  • Monitor inspection and audit findings, ensure appropriate corrective actions are in place, and report their status and required training completion to leadership
  • Compile and share safety metrics (TRIR, DART, near-miss rates, open findings) and support special safety projects and pilot programs

  • Build trust and partner effectively with everyone from frontline associates and drivers to senior leadership, gaining buy-in through credibility and relationships rather than authority
  • Absorbable and visible on the floor, so that employees raise hazards and concerns early and openly
  • Organize and manage tasks and priorities with precision and a sense of urgency
  • Able to accurately perceive issues and provide expertise to solve issues that arise
  • Understand and can demonstrate issue identification, resolution, tracking, and reporting
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of computers and various software

What you'll need

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree with 1+ years of experience, OR 3+ years in all aspects of safety — OSHA, DOT compliance, safety policy and procedure development, and loss control
  • 1+ years of experience in logistics, supply chain, project coordination, or a related field
  • OSHA 30-Hour and current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or the ability to obtain both within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to conduct training and influence teams at all levels of the organization
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets our insurability standards; able to travel up to 25%
  • Flexibility regarding shifts and working hours, including occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call incident response
  • Nice to have: CHST, OHST, certification, EHS or fleet telematics software experience, Forklift train-the-trainer, Multi-site operations experience, Conversational proficiency in Spanish

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Regularly walks, stands, bends, kneels, reaches, and climbs stairs and ladders while conducting inspections
  • Occasional lifts or carries up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in an active warehouse, dock, and yard environment with exposure to moving powered industrial equipment, elevated noise levels, and seasonal temperature variation
  • Use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including (but not limited to) safety footwear and high-visibility apparel
