Safety and Security Supervisor

About the role

The Department of Industrial Relations’ (DIR) Safety and Security team is seeking a Safety and Security Supervisor to lead and facilitate the Department's Emergency Preparedness and Security efforts for over 3,000 employees across 40+ office locations statewide. This role involves coordinating with local staff, management, property managers, and partners in law enforcement, the Office of Emergency Services, CalFire, and other local agencies to ensure the safety of all buildings.

The Safety and Security Unit manages the development and annual submission of the Department’s Business Continuity Plan, Business Impact Analysis, and Business Continuity Checklist to the California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES). The unit also leads the development, training, and testing of the roles and responsibilities outlined in the Business Continuity Plan.

This position is located at 1416 9th Street, Sacramento, CA 95814, and offers a hybrid telework schedule in accordance with DIR’s telework policy.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate emergency preparedness drills, exercises, evacuations, and develop, implement, and monitor office emergency preparedness policies and security procedures.
• Coordinate with DIR and building staff during emergencies or natural disasters, working with internal and external subject matter experts to maximize safety and security of people and property.
• Provide daily oversight and management of the Safety and Security Unit, including personnel management, health/safety, security, emergency preparedness, building access systems, and related procurement efforts.
• Lead the development, training, and testing of the Business Continuity Plan, Business Impact Analysis, and Business Continuity Checklist.
• Direct subordinate staff and delegate tasks to handle safety incidents and competing priorities.

Requirements

• Experience managing day-to-day facility safety or emergency operations, including identifying operational risks and directing staff to handle safety incidents.
• Experience leading a team or group project, including delegating tasks and managing competing priorities.

Working Conditions

• 40 hours per week in an office setting at 1416 9th Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.
• Air-conditioned, high-rise building with elevator access and a cubicle workspace with natural and artificial lighting.
• Ability to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods using a computer and telephone, and interact with coworkers and stakeholders.
