Responsibilities

  • Perform technical review of injection well permit applications.
  • Conduct a detailed review of the completion of injection wells and wells in the area surrounding the injection well to ensure confinement of injected fluids.
  • Collect, validate, and analyze data relating to injection well activities.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, estimates, reports, and related documents for compliance with laws and standards; make recommendations for improvements.
  • Inspect the work of applicants and operators for compliance with laws and specifications.
  • Prepare correspondence and technical reports.
  • Perform engineering or environmental assessments, modeling, and monitoring.
  • May provide technical guidance on data evaluation, research coordination, issue analysis, and report and recommendation preparation.
  • May assist with evaluating data and conducting research to analyze environmental issues.
  • May assist with planning work projects.
  • May train others.
  • Perform additional related essential tasks to maintain production workflow.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a B.S. in Geoscience or Engineering in Petroleum, Environmental, or Mining.
  • Valid Texas driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Austin area.
  • Two (2) years of experience in oil field technical activities or similar geological or engineering work.
  • Experience and education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Qualifications

  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist in Texas.
  • Five (5) years of experience in oil field technical activities or similar engineering or geological work.
  • Knowledge of the Railroad Commission's rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience in geographic information systems, geologic software, data analysis, and computer programming, especially using IHS Petra, ArcGIS, Python, VBA, or SQL.
  • Knowledge of engineering and data analysis techniques.
  • Ability to apply engineering concepts, to conduct inspections, to perform maintenance activities, to review design work, to review construction work, to organize and analyze data, to communicate effectively, and to train others.
  • Knowledge of evaluating documents for compliance with rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of groundwater protection.
  • Knowledge related to the design, completion, or monitoring of oil and gas or injection wells.
  • Knowledge interpreting geophysical well logs.
  • Knowledge in data management or data analysis.
  • Knowledge in computer programming.
  • Knowledge of engineering and geosciences principles, techniques, and procedures; of testing methods, processes, and procedures; of mathematics and statistics; and of the practical application of engineering and geosciences technology.
  • Skill in scientific data management; in collecting and assessing geological, geohydrological, and geophysical data; in the use of a computer and applicable software; and in the use of standard tools of the profession.
  • Knowledge of professional office procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate projects, to apply engineering and geological concepts, and to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to understand, communicate, and interpret complex engineering and geological information to others.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to discern colors and read diagrams/charts/maps/reference materials.
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM with occasional flexible hours, overtime, and weekends.
