About the role
The Route Manager oversees a satellite operation within Kimble Company, a locally owned and operated firm with over 70 years of experience in the energy, materials, recycling, and solid waste industries. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in waste industry operations, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage personnel, safety, customer service, and operational performance.
Responsibilities
- Exercises discretion in assigning and supervising CDL drivers operating solid waste collection equipment.
- Maintains daily production and ensures all drivers perform and complete daily activities professionally and on time.
- Reviews safety protocols, such as missing logs/DMRs, and reviews and verifies Hours of Service for all drivers to ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
- Manages random drug screens and monitors for reasonable suspicion.
- Monitors and manages the operations team, including reassigning team members to accommodate business needs.
- Conducts field inspections and audits of all site personnel to ensure proper work procedures are compliant with Company and all applicable legal requirements.
- Addresses customer complaints in a timely manner and reviews with the General Manager.
- Partners with the Marketing Manager and General Manager with residential contracts to ensure smooth contract start-ups.
- Partners with City Service Directors monthly to check service status.
- Supervises dispatch team and/or dispatches drivers as needed.
- Develops and executes safety goals, overseeing compliance programs, including but not limited to environmental, DOT, and OSHA.
- Monitors accident investigations and pre- and post-trip route observations.
- Administers and monitors the audit program for the weekly inspections of fleet.
- Trains team members and coaches, develops, and educates Supervisors.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED, some college preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive operations experience in the solid waste, recycling, environmental services, or related industry, with a strong understanding of collection operations, routing, safety compliance, and customer service.
- Minimum of 3 or more years of prior management of people in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid CDL license with attached DOT Medical Card, preferred.
Skills
- The ability to convey complex directions to employees.
- Excellent computer skills necessary; Microsoft Excel and Word proficiency required.
- Advanced scheduling and dispatch experience required.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to draft and carry out detailed instructions. Ability to identify and deal with problems involving a variety of variables in random situations, including problem-solving.
Pay
Commensurate with experience.

Day & Evening Shifts | Overtime | Weekends as needed.
