About the role
The Route Manager oversees a satellite operation within Kimble Company, a locally owned and operated firm with over 70 years of experience in the energy, materials, recycling, and solid waste industries. The position requires a highly motivated and accountable leader with a strong understanding of waste industry operations, initiative in problem-solving and decision-making, and the ability to manage personnel, safety, customer service, and operational performance.
Responsibilities
- Exercises discretion in assigning and supervising CDL drivers operating solid waste collection equipment.
- Maintains daily production and ensures all drivers perform and complete daily activities professionally and on time.
- Reviews safety protocols, such as missing logs/DMRs, and manages random drug screens.
- Conducts field inspections and audits of all site personnel to ensure proper work procedures comply with Company and all applicable legal requirements.
- Manages customer complaints and partners with the Marketing Manager and General Manager for residential contract start-ups.
- Partners with City Service Directors monthly to check service status.
- Supervises dispatch team and/or dispatches drivers as needed.
- Develops and executes safety goals, oversees compliance programs, and conducts audits to ensure adherence to Company, DOT, and OSHA guidelines.
- Controls costs by monitoring driver productivity and operational efficiencies, and collaborates with the General Manager to develop yearly budgets.
- Supervises operations employees directly and indirectly, ensuring proper staffing and approving hours worked and vacation requests.
- Trains team members, coaches supervisors, and develops training programs for new and existing team members.
- Administers and monitors audit program for the weekly inspections of fleet.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED, some college preferred
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive operations experience in the solid waste, recycling, environmental services, or related industry, with a strong understanding of collection operations, routing, safety compliance, and customer service.
- 3 or more years of prior management of people in a fast-paced environment
- Valid CDL license with attached DOT Medical Card, preferred

- Ability to convey complex directions to employees
- Language skills including the ability to analyze and communicate effectively, including but not limited to the ability to compose concise procedures, memos, and letters
- Excellent computer skills necessary; Microsoft Excel and Word proficiency required
- Use of computer-aided dispatching equipment required
- Advanced scheduling and dispatch experience required
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to draft and carry out detailed instructions. Ability to identify and deal with problems involving a variety of variables in random situations, including problem-solving.
