About the Role

Wagner Roofing Company is seeking a skilled and dependable Roofing Helper with 2+ years of roofing experience to join our team. The Roofing Helper will assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of roofing systems while taking on more advanced responsibilities, such as mentoring less-experienced crew members and ensuring compliance with safety standards. This role involves working on residential, commercial, and industrial projects with a focus on quality, safety, and teamwork.

This role requires an understanding of roofing processes, the ability to work independently on assigned tasks, and a commitment to ensuring installations are completed accurately and efficiently. The Roofing Helper plays a critical role in supporting the mechanic by preparing materials, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support Roofing Mechanic in Installation and Repairs:
    • Assist the Roofing Mechanic in the removal and installation of various roofing systems, including shingles, tiles, metal, and specialty materials.
    • Understand the steps and processes involved in roofing installations and repairs to anticipate the mechanic’s needs.
    • Ensure proper alignment and placement of materials, verifying that installations meet company and industry standards.
    • Identify and address potential issues during installation, reporting concerns to the mechanic or foreman as needed.
  • Autonomous Task Management:
    • Work independently on assigned tasks, such as preparing roof surfaces, laying underlayment, or securing materials.
    • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on roofing systems with minimal supervision.
    • Take the initiative to organize tools, materials, and equipment to streamline project workflows.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your team.
    • Set up and tear down safety equipment, such as fall protection systems, scaffolding, and ladders, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations.
    • Monitor the worksite for safety hazards and report them promptly.
    • Complete required safety training such as fall protection or OSHA.
  • Material and Equipment Management:
    • Prepare and stage materials for the Roofing Mechanic to ensure efficient workflow.
    • Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition and ready for use.
    • Report any equipment malfunctions or material shortages to the supervisor.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Assist in inspecting completed work to ensure it meets company quality standards and project specifications.
    • Provide feedback to the mechanic or foreman on any issues that may affect the durability or appearance of the roof.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Work collaboratively and effectively with your assigned Roofing Mechanic and other team members to meet project deadlines, taking direction from the site leads (Supervisors and foremen).
    • Mentor less-experienced laborers, providing guidance on proper techniques and safety practices.
    • Communicate effectively with the mechanic, foreman, and other team members to ensure smooth project execution.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of roofing or commercial construction experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of roofing systems, installation methods, materials, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to work independently while demonstrating sound judgment, initiative, and accountability.
  • Proficient in the safe use of roofing hand tools, power tools, and roofing equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow work orders, project plans, manufacturer specifications, and safety requirements.
  • Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, scaffolding, and in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record preferred for positions requiring operation of Company vehicles.
  • Ability to obtain access to government and other secure job sites, when required for assigned projects. Eligibility for site access is determined by the applicable government agency or site owner.
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform physically demanding work throughout the workday.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and occasional weekends, based on project and business needs.
  • Commitment to following all Company safety policies and OSHA regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience installing and repairing specialty roofing systems, including architectural sheet metal, slate, tile, or other premium roofing systems.
  • OSHA 10 certification (OSHA 30 preferred).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Fall Protection certification or equivalent safety training.
  • Experience leading or mentoring less experienced roofing team members.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and manufacturer installation details.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
