About the Role

The ideal Role Player is a professional who imitates the character and behaviors of an individual for a particular training exercise, helping military personnel, law enforcement, and other government agencies test tactical training. Role players may be assigned to travel to different training sites to re-enact training exercises. This is a part-time position.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveillance activities tradecraft (e.g., vehicular, foot, public transportation, and technical equipment) in a training environment.
  • Evaluate students' performance, provide feedback, and participate in exercise debriefing.
  • Provide acting during military, law enforcement, or other government agency training and assist in creating scenarios simulating real-world situations.
  • Give students the opportunity to apply learned concepts and gain experience for situations they may encounter while traveling or deployed.
  • Simulate various activities requiring physical actions such as jumping, running, crouching, bending, reaching, handling lightweight props, laying on the ground, kneeling, and standing from a kneeling position.
  • Maintain script adherence without ad-libbing or altering the scenario scope.
  • Wear scenario-appropriate clothing, including costuming and headgear.
  • Operate various military weapons systems and fire marking cartridge weapons, paintball-type weapons, and blank ammunition after safety instruction.
  • Act as Opposing Force (OPFOR), including engagement with marking cartridge weapons.
  • Participate in scenario training where you may be shot at with non-lethal marking ammunition (Simunitions, UTM, or paintballs) while wearing safety equipment (personal protective equipment).
  • Wear safety equipment, including a full-face helmet, throat guard, and groin guard.
  • Report to a supervisor or lead instructor and work independently or collaboratively based on training requirements.

Work Environment

This is a non-exempt, part-time, as-needed position. Hours vary based on course schedules, and training exercises may take place off-site.

Work Conditions

This role is physically demanding and requires a high level of physical conditioning, stamina, and resilience. Role Players must be able to actively participate in dynamic, scenario-based training environments involving:

  • Running, sprinting, jumping, crouching, kneeling, bending, reaching, climbing, and repeatedly transitioning to and from the ground.
  • Withstanding physical contact, including being struck by non-lethal marking rounds (Simunitions, UTM, or paintball-type munitions) while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participating in defensive tactics and hand-to-hand combat scenarios, which may include controlled strikes, kicks, grappling, being thrown to the ground, or physical confrontation.

Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including hot, cold, wet, and dusty environments. Role Players must be able to wear required safety equipment for extended periods and maintain composure, follow direction, and remain on script during physically stressful and high-intensity situations.

Requirements

  • 2 years of related experience.
  • Exceptional communication and facilitation skills for audiences of all levels.
  • Ability to maintain poise and self-control under stressful situations.
  • Availability to work flexible hours on a part-time basis.
  • 18 years or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior or active military or law enforcement experience.
  • Martial arts or combative background.
  • Security clearance.
