Road and Bridge Truck Driver - Trainee

Truck Driver - Trainee position with Saline County Road & Bridge. Must complete the Saline County Commercial Truck Driving Program within six months of employment and obtain a Class A CDL with air brakes, standard transmission, combination vehicles, and tanker endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Perform general roadwork duties including flagging traffic, trimming trees, cutting brush, mowing right-of-ways, replacing bridge planks, and assisting in concrete and asphalt work.
• Operate mower tractors, front-end loaders, skid steers, and power tools such as chain saws, weed whips, and hand tools.
• Clean up yard and/or shop buildings as assigned.
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Once CDL is obtained, additional duties and equipment operation opportunities will be available.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Class C Driver License.
• Must be insurable under Saline County’s fleet insurance policy.
• Ability to work independently and in hot or cold conditions most of the time.

Physical Requirements

• Level 4 Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly.
• Eye/hand/foot coordination sufficient to drive vehicles and operate machinery.
• Ability to use one or both legs and/or feet to move controls on machinery or equipment.
• Fine and gross manual dexterity to operate hand tools and equipment necessary for general labor duties.
• Ability to bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
• Must have clear vision at 20 feet or more for job performance and safety.

Former military personnel or their spouse verified as a veteran under K.S.A. 73-201 will receive an interview if they meet the minimum qualifications and pass any required pre-employment testing or licensing.
