About the role

This role provides comprehensive nursing care to patients in the Women's Services unit, including obstetrics, labor and delivery, postpartum, and neonatal care.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care in the obstetrics, labor and delivery, postpartum, and nursery units
• Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized care plans for mothers and infants
• Monitors fetal heart tones, vital signs, and patient status throughout labor and postpartum
• Administers medications, performs procedures, and assists physicians with exams and deliveries
• Educates patients and families on postpartum care, infant care, breastfeeding, and discharge instructions
• Documents all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and promptly
• Participates in emergency response situations, including neonatal resuscitation and postpartum hemorrhage
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and facilitate discharge planning
• Maintains a safe and clean environment in compliance with infection control standards
• Participates in staff training, competency assessments, and quality improvement initiatives

Skills

• Strong clinical knowledge in obstetric and neonatal care
• Ability to work in high-stress, fast-paced environments
• Proficient in electronic medical records (EMR) and fetal monitoring systems
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient and family interactions
• Ability to prioritize tasks and respond quickly to emergencies
• Knowledge of infection control practices and safety protocols
• Demonstrates professionalism, empathy, and patient-centered care

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Current state RN license or compact state equivalent required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required per facility policy
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required per facility policy
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required per facility policy
• Fetal Monitoring Certification required per facility policy
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required per facility policy
• Minimum of six (6) months of obstetrical nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred
