About the Role

The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the assessment, documentation, and evaluation of the plan of care for the patient during the perioperative phase of surgery. This individual demonstrates the ability to prioritize duties and responsibilities in performance as a patient advocate, working in collaboration with medical, anesthesia, managerial, and clinical staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

The nurse must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, assess data reflective of the patient's status, and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs, providing care as described in the unit's policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Direct and/or indirect care of the surgical patient
• Assessment, documentation, and evaluation of the perioperative plan of care
• Prioritize duties and responsibilities as a patient advocate
• Collaborate with medical, anesthesia, managerial, and clinical staff
• Provide age-appropriate care based on principles of growth and development
• Support the philosophy and objectives of nursing and the Medical Center

Requirements

• Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee (or multistate licensure from a compact state within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents)
• BLS certification completed prior to unit assignment and maintained
• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred)
• Minimum of two (2) years of surgical experience

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to assess and interpret patient data relative to age-specific needs
• Competency evaluated through direct observation, skills lab, verbal or written discussion, peer review, or self-assessment based on objective criteria
