About the Role
The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the assessment, documentation, and evaluation of the plan of care for the patient during the perioperative phase of surgery. This individual demonstrates the ability to prioritize duties and responsibilities in performance as a patient advocate, working in collaboration with medical, anesthesia, managerial, and clinical staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
The RN must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span, assess data reflective of the patient’s status, and interpret appropriate information to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age-specific needs, providing care as described in unit policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Direct and/or indirect care of the surgical patient
- Assessment, documentation, and evaluation of the perioperative plan of care
- Prioritize duties and act as a patient advocate
- Collaborate with medical, anesthesia, managerial, and clinical staff
- Provide age-appropriate care based on principles of growth and development
- Support the philosophy and objectives of nursing and the Medical Center
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred)
- Current licensure to practice in the State of Tennessee or multistate licensure from a compact state (must obtain Tennessee license within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents)
- BLS certification completed prior to unit assignment and maintained
- Minimum of two (2) years of surgical experience preferred
- CNOR certification and membership in a professional organization preferred
