RN opportunity on 8 Crystal Spring Tower Intensive Care Unit (8 CST ICU). Primarily evening/night shift with weekend rotation.

About the Role
This 12-bed specialized surgical intensive care unit that serves several primary patient populations. Our critical care nurses’ practice in a setting where patients require complex ongoing assessment, multiple therapies, and interventions. This unit has a reputation for excellence and currently the only ICU within the Carilion Clinic system to be recognized with a Gold Level Beacon Award by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
Responsibilities
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in order to achieve optimum patient outcomes for patients of all ages.
- Collaborates with members of the health care team/patient/family to develop, implement, and evaluate an age-specific interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Treats and administers medications for patients of all ages accurately and documents using automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
- Identifies and incorporates patient/family (caregiver) educational needs into the plan of care and documents appropriately.
- Contributes to Carilion Clinic’s performance improvement activities.
- Demonstrates the role of patient advocate, protector of patient’s rights, and provider of psychological/social/cultural support.
- Applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served.
- Plans strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, resource consumption and improve patient outcomes.
- Manages resources, establishes priorities, and modifies environment to meet patient care needs.
- Completes manager/director predetermined projects within specified time frame and according to pre-established guidelines.
- Uses problem-solving methods to facilitate resolution to patient and personnel situations that present in the work area.
- Provides feedback to staff using appropriate communication and documentation.
- Participates in unit, hospital, and/or system activities which facilitates staff participation/input in decision making.
- Assists with providing education activities for unit/department.
Requirements
- Education: Graduate of school of professional nursing of an accredited college or graduate of an approved program eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam.
- Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed as Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
- Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required. May be required to obtain/maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on specific work unit.
- Other: Computer skills required for electronic medical record (EPIC).
