3:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. day shift on a 16-bed cardiovascular/cardiothoracic care unit.

About the Unit

This 16-bed unit specializes in post-open heart and CABG patient care. Patients typically recover in the ICU for 2-3 days following surgery. The unit serves a diverse patient population, including those requiring ICU-level care for cardiac procedures, open-heart patients direct from the OR, vascular and thoracic surgery, TAVR procedures, and STEMI interventions.

  • Care for patients requiring ventilator support, SWAN-GANZ catheters, vasopressors, inotrope drips, high-alert drips, intra-aortic balloon pumps, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), IMPELLA devices, and chest tubes.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:2 for regular ICU patients and 1:1 for high-acuity patients. Occasionally, a 1:3 ratio may be required based on staffing needs and unit acuity.

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) operates under the ANA scope of practice, utilizing the nursing process to provide professional nursing care with a patient-family centered approach. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and discharging patients.
  • Providing quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader, following Corewell Health policies and procedures.
  • Partnering with patients and families to incorporate their input and goals into the care plan.
  • Developing and documenting patient/family teaching strategies and education in the health record.

Requirements

  • Associate’s in Nursing (Required).
  • Bachelor’s in Nursing (Required within 5 years of hire).
  • Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license (Required).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Canadian Heart and Stroke (Required upon hire).
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (Required within 6 months of hire).
  • Specialty certification highly recommended within 2 years.
  • 1 year of experience as an RN in the ICU (Preferred).
  • Direct inpatient care experience (Preferred).

Schedule
