About the role

Manages and coordinates the clinical and other unit activities on the resident’s unit in order to provide quality care and psychosocial well being. Manages and coordinates adequate staffing for each unit. Disciplines and/or teaches staff policy and procedures and makes sure they are followed.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures clinical staff uses appropriate techniques when giving patient care.
  • Encourages staff participation in all required continuing education programs, in-services, department meeting or committees.
  • Provides updates to staff on policy and procedures changes of the facility.
  • Makes daily rounds and talks with staff and residents.
  • Organizes/coordinates/monitors and evaluates care of residents in the facility.
  • Accompanies physicians on rounds to answer questions, receive instructions, or note special resident care requirements.
  • Shares clinical knowledge with nursing staff.
  • Aids in coordinating admissions, transfers, or discharges of residents.
  • Reports to housekeeping and maintenance any problems or issues with safety or cleanliness.
  • Ensures adequate supplies are provided on the units.
  • Checks emergency equipment to ensure adequate supplies and everything is in working order.
  • Provides regular updates to Director of Nursing on any issues identified on the unit.
  • Conducts or participates in regular staff meetings.
  • Develops and applies nursing care plans on the nursing unit.
  • Makes recommendations in matters of hiring, promoting, terminating, or disciplining employees.
  • Keeps current healthcare trends in nursing practice.

Requirements

Licensure or other certifications: Licensed to practice as an RN in Georgia.

Minimum Job Qualifications: Associates Degree. Two (2) years of experience in long term care; past management experience helpful.

Skills

Good clinical skills and abilities. Basic computer skills. Organization and leadership skills.
