About the Role

The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse educated in the art and science of nursing, dedicated to assisting patients in attaining, maintaining, and restoring health. This role operates within the Mississippi Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. The position adheres to accreditation standards, CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and Singing River Health System’s (SRHS) Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services.

New RN graduates and RNs in their first year of practice are required to participate in the Singing River Nurse Residency Program.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care utilizing the Nursing Process.
• Adhere to professional standards, including the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
• Apply clinical judgment and professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
• Supervise LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, and Unit Technicians.
• Complete and maintain required certifications (e.g., BCLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC) based on specialty area within specified timeframes.
• Complete de-escalation training by the end of orientation (90 days).
• Maintain collaborative and respectful working relationships across SRHS and other organizations.
• Demonstrate superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
• Utilize computers, MS Outlook, Word, and other office technology proficiently.

Requirements

• Graduate from an NLN-accredited School of Nursing.
• Current unrestricted Mississippi State licensure as a Registered Nurse.
• Minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience preferred; experience must be within the past five (5) years or evidence of a successful refresher program.
• BCLS certification required upon hire and/or transfer.
• Specialty certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC) required within 12–18 months for specific units (e.g., Cath Lab, Emergency Department, ICU, Labor & Delivery, Pediatrics).
• De-escalation training completion by the end of orientation (90 days).

Physical Demands

• Moderately active work involving frequent movement within the facility and travel between SRHS locations.

• Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues, with potential infectious disease hazards.
• Repetitive motions, such as typing and using office equipment.
• Ability to perceive sound at normal speaking levels and make fine auditory discriminations.
• Close visual acuity to shift focus between computer monitors and printed materials.
• Ability to remain active for extended periods without undue fatigue.
