About the role
The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse who is educated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of assisting patients attain, maintain, and restore health when possible. Competency is determined by demonstrated possession of the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for this position. The registered nurse provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, Accreditation Standards, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and SRHS Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services.
New RN graduates and RNs in their first year of practice are required to participate in the Singing River Nurse Residency Program.
Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
Location: Singing River Gulfport Hospital
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care utilizing the Nursing Process.
- Adhere to the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, Accreditation Standards, CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and SRHS Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services.
- Supervise LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, and Unit Technicians.
Requirements
- Graduate from NLN School of Nursing.
- Current unrestricted Mississippi State licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
- Specialty certifications required for specific areas (must be obtained within 12 months of starting in the specialty, or 18 months for TNCC in the Emergency Department):
- Cath Lab – ACLS
- Cardiac Rehab – ACLS
- Congestive Heart Failure – ACLS
- Cardiovascular Surgery - ACLS
- Emergency Department – ACLS, PALS, TNCC
- Intensive Care Units – ACLS
- Labor & Delivery – ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation)
- Medical Nursing – OB/GYN - PALS
- Nursery – NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation)
- Pediatrics – PALS
- PACU/Recovery – ACLS, PALS
- De-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days).
- A minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience, preferred (experience must be within the past five (5) years, or evidence of successful refresher program).

Physical Demands
- Moderately active work: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, facility, or travel to another facility within the SRHS service area.
- Exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease.
- Repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as a computer keyboard.
- Ability to perceive sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; ability to make fine discriminations in sound.
- Close visual acuity and the ability to adjust focus, e.g., shift gaze from a computer monitor to printed material.
- Ability to be active for extended periods without experiencing undue fatigue.
- Ability to work assigned schedules, with the understanding that changes may be made according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts, or weekends.
