About the role
The Nurse Supervisor coordinates and organizes personnel and resources to deliver cost-effective patient care. They collaborate on crisis management, interpret policies, and ensure timely communication across departments. Representing organizational leadership 24/7, the Nurse Supervisor makes decisions on behalf of the leadership team.
Responsibilities
- Ensures continuous and timely availability of urgent care, emergency, inpatient, and operative services.
- Monitors daily operations by integrating data from electronic systems, communication, and unit rounds to ensure effective, efficient, and satisfactory patient care.
- Allocates and redirects resources to maintain safety and quality of care, considering acuity, patient needs, and staff skill mix.
- Coordinates routine and emergency patient admissions to optimize placement, capacity, and satisfaction for patients, families, and providers.
- Leads organizational response during high census, collaborating with administrators, nursing directors, and departments like Emergency, Surgery, Critical Care, Cath Lab, and Inpatient Units.
- Promotes communication at all levels and collaborates with care management, medical staff, and interdisciplinary teams for smooth patient throughput.
- Upholds professional standards of care, demonstrating leadership and clinical competency to achieve the system’s Mission and Vision.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) Required.
- Master's Degree Preferred.
- Three years of relevant clinical nursing experience Required.
- One year of relevant formal nursing leadership experience Required for external applicants.
- One year of relevant demonstrated informal leadership experience Required for internal applicants (e.g., Charge Lead Nurse, Shared Governance Council leadership).
- MI Registered Nurse (RN) license Required.
