Job Summary

A registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient. Performs the functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of the patient receiving Same Day Surgery, Out-patient Medications/Procedures and/or Endoscopy services during his/her shift. Responsible for meeting the established standards of nursing practice for assigned patients, for managing supplies, medications and equipment in the department, and for promoting teamwork with physicians and personnel of other departments. Able to function independently with only occasional or limited supervision. Provides age appropriate care to assigned patients in the department. Must be self-motivated, flexible to accommodate daily schedule changes, and able to provide 'on-call' coverage.

Comply with policies for infection control, employee health and exposure control, including hand washing, use of PPE and handling of specimens. Demonstrated professional responsibility and complies with personnel policy and procedures. Maintains a safe work environment, uses proper body mechanics, ergonomics and techniques to protect self and others from injury. Report appropriate and accurate information to other caregivers. Follow the chain of command. Keeps team members informed. Maintains patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct and indirect care in the Same Day Care, which also includes the following areas: Endoscopy, Outpatient Infusion and Radiology.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately to the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient.
  • Accurate and complete documentation of assessment, plan, intervention, and evaluation of care.
  • Recover patients from procedure and evaluate care provided.
  • Transfer and position patients safely. Demonstrate use of proper body alignment, side rails, brakes and other patient protection equipment.
  • Individualize preparation and respond according to physician, nurse or patient preference as needed.
  • Manages supplies, medications and equipment in the department, and for promoting teamwork within and with other departments.

Requirements

  • License/Certification/Registration Required: Current, unrestricted North Carolina RN licensure or Multi-State Nursing Compact Licensure.
  • BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward.
  • ACLS certification.

Qualifications

  • Education Required: Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program.
  • Experience Must have thorough knowledge of the nursing process and be able to provide basic nursing care to patients.
  • PREFERRED: One year medical/surgical acute care experience, surgical or special procedure experience.
