About the Role

A registered professional nurse at Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients receiving Same Day Surgery, outpatient medications/procedures, and/or Endoscopy services. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, managing supplies, medications, and equipment, and promoting teamwork with physicians and other departments. The position requires independent functioning with minimal supervision, age-appropriate care, and flexibility to accommodate schedule changes, including on-call coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Perform direct and indirect patient care in Same Day Care, Endoscopy, Outpatient Infusion, and Radiology.
  • Reflect initiative, flexibility, and professional responsibility with minimal supervision.
  • Comply with infection control, employee health, and exposure control policies, including hand washing, PPE use, and specimen handling.
  • Maintain a safe work environment using proper body mechanics and ergonomics to prevent injury.
  • Report accurate information to other caregivers and follow the chain of command.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and keep team members informed.
  • Assess pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients prior to procedures and develop appropriate care plans.
  • Provide age-appropriate care and administer medications safely and accurately.
  • Document assessments, plans, interventions, and evaluations of care completely and accurately.
  • Recover patients post-procedure and evaluate care provided.
  • Safely transfer and position patients, using proper body alignment and patient protection equipment.
  • Individualize patient preparation and respond to physician, nurse, or patient preferences.
  • Manage departmental supplies, medications, and equipment, and promote teamwork within and across departments.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program.
  • Current, unrestricted North Carolina RN licensure or Multi-State Nursing Compact Licensure.
  • BLS certification (completed prior to unit assignment and maintained).
  • ACLS certification.
  • North Carolina licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-North Carolina residents.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of the nursing process and ability to provide basic nursing care.
  • Preferred: One year of medical/surgical acute care experience, surgical, or special procedure experience.
  • Strong communication skills and interview techniques.
  • Self-motivated and flexible to accommodate daily schedule changes, including on-call coverage.
