About the role
The registered nurse delivers patient care using the nursing processes of assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care. They direct and guide patient care activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing, and cooperate and communicate with all health team members to ensure the highest quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Complete all components of Nursing Assessment on new admissions as indicated by age-specific requirements (pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) within the specified time frame.
- Initiate and ensure medication reconciliation through admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Plan, direct, and evaluate individualized nursing care based on identified problems and age-specific/developmental requirements (pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
- Collaborate and coordinate with treatment team members to provide quality patient care and maintain an accurate and timely interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Assess and document patient condition, observations, interventions, and responses on an ongoing basis, including normal system reviews, behavioral factors, and age-specific considerations.
- Plan and provide patient and/or significant other education based on physical, behavioral, psychological development, and age-related factors after identifying barriers to learning.
- Perform venipuncture according to hospital policy for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Demonstrate safe medication administration, maintaining medication and patient verification processes per hospital policy.
- Adhere to policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, co-workers, and self.
- Demonstrate knowledge of core measures and guidelines to meet requirements.
- Demonstrate problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Take initiative to obtain additional education related to the scope of practice.
- Function as a preceptor and mentor.
- Maintain CPR certification.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current Alabama licensure or MSL.
- Experience preferred; new graduates accepted.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required before the conclusion of the orientation period.
