About the Role

The Specialty RN II provides direct patient care in an area designated as a specialty unit in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively delegates patient care to ancillary personnel. May precept student nurses and new hires.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care based on patient assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources.
  • Monitors, documents, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including disposition, referral, and spiritual and/or psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of the patient and/or family and provides patient and family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.

Requirements

  • Accredited Program: Nursing (Required)
  • ACLS, BLS, NRP, or Fetal Heart Monitoring Certification (specific requirements vary by unit; see details below)
  • Registered Nurse Compact License or Florida RN License
  • A minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience required
  • Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action

Department-specific credentials:

  • ONCC Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Certificate required for RNs administering chemotherapy
  • APHON Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider card required within 12 months of hire for pediatric oncology RNs
  • ACLS required for ICU, ED, PACU, Endo, Tele, OB, MHN Pre-Op, and Specialty Procedural areas
  • PALS required for Pediatric areas (except NICU); RNs from non-pediatric backgrounds have 30 days to obtain PALS
  • NRP certification required for NICU; RNs from non-NICU backgrounds have 30 days to obtain NRP
  • Certification in Fetal Monitoring (Intermediate or Advanced) through National Credential Center, AWOHNN, or GE Healthcare required for L&D RNs prior to completion of orientation
  • RN Fellowship Program requires one (1) year of independent RN practice (excluding orientation)
  • Newly licensed RNs have six (6) months to obtain ACLS and/or PALS
