RN , Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery

About the role

The Mount Carmel East Labor and Delivery unit has 12 labor beds, 5 high risk antepartum beds, and 5 triage beds. It includes 2 OR rooms with a 2 bed recovery room. Patients seen may include high risk labors, scheduled cesareans, unscheduled or emergent cesareans, trauma patients, and antepartum patients.

Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate patient care for an assigned group of patients, utilizing evidence-based practice;
• Aids providers with patient assessment, examinations, and treatments;
• Performs basic medical procedures under the supervision of a provider, including procedure setup;
• Administers medications under the direction of the provider, according to the organization's standards, policies, procedures, and/or guidelines;
• Assists in emergency situations under the direction of the provider;
• Thoroughly educates and explains procedures to patients and family members (diagnosis, disease process etc.);
• Documents accurately and completely pertinent assessments, interventions, and outcomes for patients in accordance with documentation standards, policies, procedures, and/or guidelines;
• Assumes responsibility and accountability for care provided and documented by other licensed and unlicensed care givers as appropriate.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing;
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio;
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage patient care, including delegation to and supervision of other members of the patient care team;
• Basic computer skills required; prior experience using an EMR for charting preferred.

• Current BLS/CPR;
