About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) for the Crisis Receiving Stabilization (CRSC) unit at Monmouth Medical Center (MMC) is responsible for providing psychiatric and medical services within a psychosocial milieu. This role involves assisting the psychiatrist with medication clinics, administering medications, scheduling and documenting physical exams and lab tests, performing AIMES Screenings, conducting nursing assessments, facilitating groups, and participating in departmental Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provides psychiatric and medical services for adult clients within a psychosocial milieu.
  • Aids the psychiatrist with medication clinic tasks.
  • Administers medication orally and parenterally.
  • Schedules and documents physical exams and lab tests.
  • Performs AIMES Screenings, nursing assessments, intakes, and consults.
  • Maintains a case load and all pertinent clinical documentation.
  • Facilitates groups.
  • Participates in departmental Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Reports identified safety issues such as hazardous environments and medical errors.
  • Ensures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics.
  • Administers medication for patients in accordance with all nursing standards.
  • Provides medication education to patients and their families.
  • Aids the psychiatrist in medication clinics through ongoing preparation, follow-up on medication-related issues, review of lab reports, and follow-up of any abnormal results.
  • Assists in patient billing through accurate record-keeping of client attendance in groups and activities daily, and medication clinic services.
  • Coordinates medical and nursing care for program clients.
  • Obtains medical history from clients entering psychosocial rehabilitation programs through client interviews, documentation, and contacts with healthcare providers.
  • Completes nursing assessments and problem lists.
  • Demonstrates active participation in performance improvement projects through team involvement.
  • Develops and facilitates groups concerning medication and general health education.
  • Integrates psychosocial, physical, nutritional, and rehabilitation needs of the patient in patient care and discharge planning, demonstrating cultural awareness.
  • Maintains the standards of nursing care which are evidence-based and outcome-driven, implementing policies and procedures of the hospital and Nursing Department, adhering to ethical principles defined by the ANA code of ethics.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary staff meetings.
  • Presents treatment recommendations and progress reports.
  • Affords all necessary nursing services and supportive counseling to mental health consumers on an ongoing basis.
  • Schedules physical exams for patients and follows through with all necessary medical care.
  • Updates the patient's medical record and completes all documentation of each patient's progress, addressing current individual treatment plan goals, program attendance, and other information to describe the course and response to treatment.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) or Nursing Diploma.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse with three to five years of experience in the mental health field.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills.
  • Required certifications and licenses: BLS Active, New Jersey Registered Nurse License, NJ Driver’s License.
  • Preferred: BSN or completion within 5 years upon hire.
  • Preferred: National Certification.
