Essential Functions

• Affords nursing care to patients in a same day surgery setting.
• Assumes full responsibility for patient care in accordance with physician's orders and center policies.
• Maintains accurate records of patient symptoms, reactions, and changes in condition.
• Administers medications and treatments as ordered by physicians.
• Carefully discharges post-operative patients according to facility policies.
• Administers pain and nausea medications as needed, ensuring proper documentation and side effect awareness.
• Maintains patient and employee privacy and confidentiality.
• Provides psychological support to patients and families.
• Maintains rapport with physicians and other departments involved in patient care.
• Admits patients to the sit-up area.
• Accurately charges medications and supplies, checking charge sheets for accuracy.
• Ensures compliance with departmental policies and provides orientation to new employees.
• Maintains supplies and cleanliness in the work environment.

• Able to accurately assess the need for pain and/or nausea medication.
• Always follows an order before administering medication.
• Knows the intended actions and side effects of medications.
• Maintains patient and employee privacy and confidential information.
• Provides psychological support to patients and families.
• Maintains rapport with physicians and other departments providing care for the patients.
• Able to make logical, quick decisions based on sound judgment.
• Maintains competence through continuing education and meets requirements for CEU re-licensure.
• Assists in the orientation of new employees with factual information regarding current departmental policies.
