RN-Postpartum

Location: Charleston, SC | Duration: 13 weeks | Shift: Day shift, working every other weekend, holidays as needed, and floating to other facilities as needed.

About the Role

Provide nursing care for patients following established standards and practices in accordance with the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act. Apply professional nursing theory and practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.

Constant interaction with internal and external customers, including patients, families, physicians, employees, and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using professional nursing theory and practice.
• Administer patient care in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
• Identify problems and recommend solutions.
• Prepare and maintain records, and write reports.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, hospital staff, medical staff, and the public.
• Analyze situations and apply critical thinking.
• Communicate clearly and react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Requirements

• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of South Carolina or holds a current compact/multi-state RN license in a recognized NCSBN Compact State (not a permanent resident of SC).
• Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.
• NRP certification required within 6 months of hire (for WIC service RNs) and must keep certification current.
• 1 year of Mother Baby Couplet care experience (Required).
• Graduate of an accredited school or college of nursing.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to evaluate patient care.
• Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures for patient care administration.
• Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
• Skill in applying principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing for ongoing patient care.
• Skill in maintaining records and writing reports.
• Ability to analyze situations and apply critical thinking.
• Ability to communicate clearly and react calmly in emergency situations.

Work Environment

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, and stooping.
• Frequent lifting/moving of patients; intermittent lifting, moving, or carrying up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity and reaching with hands/arms.
• Constant talking or hearing; corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
• Exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue; possible exposure to infectious materials and communicable diseases.
• Intermittent risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
• Moderate noise level in work area.
• Work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours.
• May require taking call and/or working weekends/holidays based on department needs.

Education

• BSN preferred; required within five (5) years of hire date unless transferring to another RN position in the same department.
• Current RNs transferring to a different department must complete BSN within five (5) years of transfer date.
