RN - OUTPATIENT SUPERVISOR

Full-time position (1.00 FTE), day shift.
About the Role
Work under the general nursing process while using independent judgment to assign nurses, technicians, and nursing care to assigned patients. Provide clinical leadership for nursing and technician staff, ensuring adequate staffing to meet patient census. Serve as a role model to promote a positive work environment and quality patient care, and ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignments may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice.
- Use independent judgment to assign nursing personnel and staff to specific patients.
- Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.
- Designate shift and schedule assignments; assign duties in accordance with the plan of care, patient needs, and within the scope of staff qualifications and licensure/certification/registry.
- Supervise employees, including selecting, terminating, training, educating, correcting deficiencies, performing appraisals, issuing discipline, counseling, and scheduling work assignments. Encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives.
- Act as a liaison between physicians, staff, patients, families, and other departments to facilitate communication, problem-solving, decision-making, crisis intervention, resource utilization, and conflict management.
- Supervise and direct staff providing patient care; accountable for care provided to patients on assigned shift.
- Act as a clinical resource and role model for department personnel.
- Delegate and monitor completion of duties according to departmental and hospital policies.
- Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required.
- Work within hospital, nursing division, and departmental policies.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to implement and document individualized care plans, including age-specific considerations, discharge planning, and patient/family teaching.
- Assist with special tests and procedures, ensuring proper consent is obtained.
- Participate in orientation; upon successful completion of preceptor training, assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities for new personnel.
- Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients.
- Ensure patient medical records contain necessary information.
- Answer telephones and triage calls per departmental policy.
- Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings.
- Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings, and workshops.
- Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve it through questioning current policies and processes.
- Identify and report or correct environmental conditions and situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
- Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and near misses in a timely manner.
- Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations they don’t understand or may seem "not right."
Requirements
- Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program.
- 2 years of directly related experience.
- Current CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days of hire.
- RN licensure in New Mexico or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by New Mexico.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, bilingual in English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo, or nationally certified in area of specialty.
Physical Conditions
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical demand requirements exceed those for Medium Work.
Working conditions involve exposure to significant hazards such as chemicals and biohazardous materials, requiring personal protective equipment (PPE).
