Job Specific Competencies

• Directs efforts to prevent hospital acquired infections related to hand-hygiene performance.
• Adapts to various age-specific patient populations including adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment for each case.
• Reviews and documents pertinent chart data perioperatively.
• Assists in teaching patients and families about their care in an understandable manner.
• Prioritizes workload and prepares for specific operative procedures.
• Positions, skins, and drapes patients according to policy and procedure.
• Fulfills department and hospital protocols for surgical specimen handling and documentation.
• Fulfills hospital protocols for surgical counts and documentation.
• Collects, interprets, and communicates relevant data for patient care.
• Cleans and maintains equipment after each case.
• Maintains aseptic techniques and follows infection control practices.
• Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures, equipment, instrumentation, and supplies.
• Works in Endoscopy procedures as assigned.
• Responds appropriately to unanticipated or emergency situations during surgery or postoperatively.
• Troubleshoots equipment and instrumentation issues.
• Endorses patients to the PACU nurse.
• Collaborates with Materials Management and assists with inventory control and checking expiration dates.
• Fulfills policy and procedure for handling and disposing of contaminated and hazardous materials.
• Conducts "time-out" Universal Protocol.
• Prepares supplies for the next day's assignments on case carts.

Education & Experience Requirements

• Assoc. Degree or Diploma from nursing school.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience in the Operating Room.

Credentials & Qualifications

• Current New Jersey Nursing License.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS - AHA approved certifications.
• CNOR certification preferred.
• Open to work 3-12 hour shifts, 4-10 hour shifts, or 5-8 hour shifts.
• 80 hours of on-call required.
