About the Role

The NICU Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage." The RN serves as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers, modeling a commitment to the organization’s vision, mission, and values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient condition during admission and each shift as scheduled and/or as needed, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
• Assesses patient environment for safety risks and/or non-compliance with regulatory standards.
• Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention.
• Assesses patient condition for signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect; reports any indications to medical provider(s), nurse leader, and/or appropriate agency.
• Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s).
• Documents the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
• Performs the administration of prescribed medications; monitors patient for therapeutic response and notifies provider/intervenes as appropriate in the event of an unintended response.
• Provides exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests and anticipating patient needs proactively.
• Teaches patients, families, and caregivers about patient medical condition, status, treatment plan, medications, possible side effects, and follow-up measures, translating complex medical terminology for complete understanding.
• Teaches patients, families, and caregivers about non-medicinal follow-up measures such as healthy diet, exercise, disease prevention, and lifestyle changes.
• Prepares patients and families/caregivers for future self-management.
• Manages a care team, providing oversight and delegation to members as appropriate.
• Manages evidence-based practices and continuous process improvement initiatives to meet and exceed quality measures.
• Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate, evaluate, customize, and deliver a holistic patient treatment plan that promotes and supports recovery.
• Serves as the interface between healthcare providers and community support systems to coordinate ongoing care needs for specialized patient groups.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date)
• STABLE certification (must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date)
