About the role
Medical Surgical Oncology CHI Health St. Elizabeth is a 42 bed Med/Surg unit caring for diverse populations and diagnoses including Orthopedic, Trauma, Spine and Neuro surgery, Surgical and Medical Oncology, pulmonary, renal, GI, and cardiac care.
We have a rapidly growing oncology program and are committed to providing highly skilled care using the ONS curriculum and standards of practice. In addition, we provide post-surgical care with a focus on pain management, early mobilization, and patient and family centered education promoting excellent outcomes. Our care model emphasizes multidisciplinary teams for our patients including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietary, Nutrition, Palliative Care, and innovative nursing models to include LPN, C.N.A and RN teams.
Responsibilities
- Affirms patient comfort by assessing, planning, and implementing nursing care
- Anticipates, identifies, and responds to informational and emotional needs of patients and families
- Guides and directs healthcare personnel (i.e., CNAs) in caring for patients
- Maintains knowledge of equipment setup, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices)
- Utilizes safeguards such as IV pump drug library and monitor alarms with necessary precautions
- Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury)
- Assists with patient care duties/tasks (i.e., emptying drainage devices, ambulating, and hygiene)
Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license that allows you to practice in our state
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Experience as a Registered Nurse preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Specialty certification (ex: PCCN, CCRN, CNOR, CEN) preferred

Pay and Recognition
- Compensation: Base rate + shift differential
