RN Medical ICU Nights
Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital is a 630-bed specialty care teaching hospital, Magnet Designated, and the only Level 1 Trauma Center between Dallas and Austin. Relocation bonus available.

- Full Time - 36 hours per week - Nights 7p-7a
About the role
As a Registered Nurse in our 23-bed Medical ICU, you will oversee patient care using a professional practice model. The unit cares for patients with various acute and chronic illnesses and utilizes some of the latest technology. The department offers a designated educator, leadership growth support, multidisciplinary rounds, a structured progression training plan, and competency-based career progression opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
- Create, implement, and evaluate care plans, adjusting to reach desired outcomes.
- Build therapeutic relationships with patients and families, managing discomfort and maintaining professionalism.
- Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members to empower informed healthcare choices.
- Assess and document learning needs regularly.
- Collaborate with colleagues and the community to create care plans.
- Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
- Use problem-solving strategies with patients, families, and staff, recognizing limitations and prioritizing safety, effectiveness, and efficiency.
- Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, and commit to personal and peer growth.
- Secure patient travel and address patient needs in healthcare.
- Help patients and prevent issues in compliance with the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
- Follow hospital procedures and delegate tasks based on patient condition and team competencies.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited RN program with a specialized field of study in nursing.
- Active RN license.
- BLS certification (must obtain within 30 days of starting if not already certified).
- 1 year of ICU RN experience required.
Skills
- Deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, procedures, and laws.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common medications, and their side effects.
- Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Positive social skills for interacting with a diverse range of parties.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking capabilities.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
