About the Role

The Registered Nurse is accountable for coordinating care for patients and their families, including direct care, patient and family education, and discharge planning. The role follows the nursing process of assessing, diagnosing, outcome identification, planning, implementing, and evaluating care. The Registered Nurse provides leadership for ancillary personnel and practices within the ANA Scope of Practice, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and specialty standards.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the needs and conditions of assigned patients by gathering relevant health information.
• Identifies outcomes, develops individualized care plans, and implements them to attain expected outcomes.
• Evaluates patient progress and revises diagnoses, outcomes, and plans of care as needed.
• Provides safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while respecting privacy and treating all individuals with dignity and respect.
• Performs aseptic techniques, maintains infection prevention standards, and adheres to disinfection and sterilization principles.
• Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
• Assists with procedures and patient transportation per hospital and departmental policies.
• Participates in creating a learning environment supported by evidence-based practice and research.
• Engages in professional development, mentoring colleagues and students, and attending educational seminars.
• Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards for patient care and safety.
• Complies with state and federal regulations, maintains certifications/licenses, and completes mandatory training.
• Maintains timely and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, EMR entries, and patient responses.
• Reports safety-related incidents and ensures a safe work environment for all staff.

Qualifications

• RNs hired on or after 7/1/2016 must graduate from a BSN program within 6 years of hire into an RN position.
• Existing RNs hired before 7/1/2016 are encouraged but not mandated to pursue a BSN degree.
• Active, unrestricted Arizona RN License or valid, participating compact license (Required).
• BLS certification (Required).
• ACLS certification (Required).
• NIHSS certification (Required within 30 days of hire).
• Competence in using computers and basic software programs for patient care.

CALL REQUIRED: Depending on the nursing unit, being “on call” may be required.
