About the Role
The Registered Nurse is accountable for coordinating care for patients and their families, including direct care, patient and family education, and discharge planning. The nurse follows the nursing process of assessing, diagnosing, outcome identification, planning, implementing, and evaluating care. The role involves leadership for ancillary personnel, team collaboration, and adherence to professional standards.
Responsibilities
- Assess the needs and conditions of assigned patients by gathering relevant health information.
- Identify outcomes, develop individualized care plans, and implement them to attain expected outcomes.
- Assess patient progress toward outcomes and revise diagnoses, outcomes, and plans of care as needed.
- Provide safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while respecting privacy and treating all individuals with dignity and respect.
- Evaluate patient conditions frequently and adapt the plan of care accordingly.
- Perform aseptic techniques, maintain infection prevention standards, and adhere to disinfection and sterilization principles.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Assist with procedures and patient transportation per hospital and departmental policies.
- Participate in creating and sustaining a learning environment supported by evidence-based practice and research.
- Engage in professional development, mentoring, and education of colleagues and students.
- Adhere to regulatory and organizational standards for patient care and safety, including hospital and departmental policies.
- Practice in a safe, high-quality, and cost-effective manner, complying with state and federal regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date certifications and licenses as required for the position.
- Complete mandatory training and modules within specified time frames.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, EMR entries, and patient responses.
- Report safety-related incidents promptly and attend safety training programs.
Qualifications
- RNs hired on or after 7/1/2016: Must graduate from a BSN program within 6 years of hire into an RN position.
- Existing Staff RNs (hired before 7/1/2016): BSN encouraged but not mandated.
- Active, unrestricted Arizona RN License or valid, participating compact license (Required).
- BLS certification (Required).
- ACLS certification (Required).
- NIHSS certification (Required within 30 days of hire).
- Obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies as assigned by departmental leadership.
CALL REQUIRED: Depending on the nursing unit, being “on call” may be required.
