About the role

Sign-on bonus of $10,000 for Registered Nurses with more than one year of experience, requiring a 3-year commitment. Rogers 8 is a busy 11-room medical-surgical unit focused on the complex care of medical-surgical patients, with an emphasis on increasing mobility and maintaining patient autonomy. This role offers an opportunity to refine multiple med-surg nursing skills in a supportive team environment with ample natural light.

Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, cellulitis, infection, sepsis, sickle cell crisis, CHF exacerbation, pain management, weakness, and ECF placement.

Special skills valued for this role include strong assessment abilities, good time management, and prioritization skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service.
• Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
• Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care to assure integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
• Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care based on patient and family needs.
• Implements and modifies the plan of care based on continuous evaluation.
• Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
• Communicates directly and privately to resolve issues, offers constructive feedback, and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge.
• Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to address them.
• Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.
• Receives bedside shift report from an RN at the beginning of each shift, ensuring patient input, visual validation of a safe patient room environment, and updating the patient communication board.
• Delegates patient care tasks to healthcare technicians and validates completion throughout the shift.
• Completes and documents basic RN patient care activities, including assessments, interpretation of vital signs, physician order completion, admission/discharge, hourly rounding, care plan documentation, and patient education.
• Meets Carle Med/Surg RN documentation standards for each assigned patient.
• Administers patient medications utilizing the 5 Rights: Right Patient, Right Medication, Right Route, Right Dose, and Right Time.
• Maintains patient safety as the highest priority, ensuring compliance with safety measures such as fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions, and patient ambulation safety.
• Maintains a positive attitude to promote a healthy work environment and healing patient environment.
• Focuses on promptly answering patient call lights to ensure effective triage and completion of patient requests or medical needs.
• Uses critical thinking to evaluate overall patient condition and nursing judgment to identify and act on changes in patient status.
• Effectively communicates within the healthcare team to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, patient care coordination, and patient safety.

Requirements

• Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA).
• College Diploma in Nursing.
• More than one year of RN work experience.

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $38.93 per hour to $63.35 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors such as experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
