Essential Functions
- Affords assessments of physical, psychological, and social dimensions of the patient.
- Utilizes knowledge of illnesses, injuries, and diseases and utilizes available resources in the assessment process.
- Documents nursing interventions, patient responses, effectiveness, and complications.
- Communicates patient care plans via Bedside Shift Report.
- Provides verbal and written instructions including medication and side effects.
Professional Leadership
- Reports patient care or management problems to Clinical Coordinator and /or supervisor when necessary.
- Investigates and intervenes in problem situations reporting appropriate information.
- Makes outpatient assignments based on acuity and staff qualifications and experience.
- Captures unit routines, provides guidance to staff, orientates new staff, assures presence and working order of emergency equipment.
Unit Requirements
- Demonstrates ability to care for patients in various age groups, pediatrics to geriatrics.
- Demonstrates ability to care for surgical, medical, psychiatric, and short-term psychiatric patients.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge and safe use of medications specific to the acute care patient population.
Personal Growth and Development
- Identifies own learning needs and seeks opportunities for self-growth, using and sharing skills gained through continuing education classes.
- Completes annual nursing competencies.
- Attends annual mandatory day.
- Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior, motor skills, and physiological norms of patients, modifying approaches accordingly.
- Interview and communication techniques are age-appropriate.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate's Degree Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred.
- Licenses and Credentials: Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only required.
- Experience: ED: 3 years of prior, related ED experience preferred; TNCC & NRP preferred; CPI/AVADE/MOAB training preferred; Med/Surg, Infusion, LDRP: 1 year of prior, related medical/surgical experience preferred; NCMG: minimum of 3 years of relevant clinical experience preferred; Perioperative: at least 2 years of prior perioperative experience; Dialysis: more than 1 year of experience in a medical/surgical unit required; Dialysis: critical care experience preferred; Dialysis: ACLS preferred; Infusion: Strong IV skills or certification; LDRP: at least 2 years of prior labor and delivery experience preferred.
