Responsibilities
- Adheres to CLABSI and CAUTI protocols
- Performs venipuncture, IV infusion therapy, and pump usage
- Conducts wound care assessment, documentation, and follows wound prevention protocol as per policy
- Completes Plan of Care, initiates, reviews, and resolves based on diagnosis and history
- Completes assessments and reassessments and required documentation accurately and timely
- Renders appropriate nutritional care including enteral and parenteral therapies
- Administers medications, including critical medications, and evaluates response
- Adheres to infection prevention protocol including hand hygiene, PPE, and universal precautions
- Administers blood and blood products
- Performs chest physiotherapy, oral, naso, tracheostomy, endo, and tracheal suctioning
- Activates Core Measures and Septic Protocols as indicated
- Reports critical lab, radiology, EKG, and ABG values to MD according to policy
- Interprets cardiac monitor rhythm and performs appropriate interventions
- Identifies and responds to emergency situations
- Proficient in ventilation management and pulmonary support
- Demonstrates proficiency in life support, code blue, and Rapid Response
- Adapts to varied age-specific patient populations (e.g., infant, toddler, adult)
- Identifies concomitant health and social needs of patients
- Ensures proper discharge instructions and medication reconciliation, including follow-up referral
- Assists with bedside interventional procedures
- Documents patient pain assessment, pain goal, and effectiveness of PRN pain medications within 1 hour of administration
- Administers stat medications within one-half hour of physician’s order
- Verifies all physician orders in Careview
- Demonstrates proficiency in administration of emergency medications and drips
- Reports any changes in patient condition immediately to Hospitalist or Attending Physician
- Documents restraints per protocol
- Completes documentation for patient transfers to another facility
- Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by completing assignments and charting within the designated shift time
- Initiates DVT prophylaxis when appropriate
- Proficient in neuromuscular blocking agents and train-of-four
Requirements
- Current NJ State RN license
- BSN preferred
- BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA approved)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Intensive Care Unit
