Responsibilities

• Record patients' medical history and symptoms, perform diagnostic tests, and analyze results.
• Operate medical equipment, administer treatment and medications, and assist with patient follow-up and rehabilitation.
• Establish or contribute to care plans, including administering medication, managing IV lines, and providing therapies.
• Observe and record patient progress, consult with physicians, and adjust care plans as needed.
• Teach patients and families about managing illnesses or injuries, post-treatment care, nutrition, exercise, and self-administration of medication.
• Provide direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides, delegating tasks when appropriate.
• Precept new hires and students, supporting their competency development.
• Enhance clinical knowledge and skills, improving patient experience and outcomes while promoting a healthy work environment.
• Collect and analyze health data systematically, prioritizing based on the patient’s immediate needs.
• Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise individualized, evidence-based care plans that are family-centered and culturally relevant.
• Implement interventions, initiate treatments, and provide care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, and social-cultural needs.
• Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes and document observations, interventions, and monitoring data.
• Assess the quality and effectiveness of care plans, ensuring cost-effective, high-quality healthcare.
• Evaluate and enhance personal nursing practice in relation to professional standards and regulations.
• Integrate ethical principles into practice and address cultural and diversity needs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care.
• Develop and evaluate evidence-based standards of care, using research to improve practice and patient outcomes.
• Utilize resources effectively, considering safety, effectiveness, and cost in delivering patient care.

All RNs with direct responsibility for stroke patients must have knowledge of:

• Stroke symptoms and warning signs.
• Protocols and pathways for identifying, evaluating, and managing stroke patients.
• NIHSS Stroke Alert activation and protocol.
• Stroke quality indicators.
• Available stroke patient education materials and community resources.
• Stroke Center website resources.

Requirements

• 1+ years of ICU experience (Required).
• 1 year of RN experience for Float Positions (Required).
• More than 10 months of med-surg or acute specialty setting experience (Required).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) (Preferred).
• All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire OR have 5+ years of Registered Nurse experience (including direct or indirect RN roles) at the time of hire (Required).
• Associate's degree or Diploma in Nursing (Required).

Licenses and Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (Required).
• Registered Nurse (RN) State and/or Compact State Licensure in Arizona (Required upon hire).
• Unit-specific certification as required by specialty (Required).
• National certification for unit-specific patient population (Preferred).
