Essential Functions
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care before, during, and after endoscopy procedures
- Administers and monitors conscious sedation and manages patient responses during procedures
- Affords assistance with endoscopic procedures including biopsies, polyp removal, and hemostasis
- Maintains surveillance of patient condition, vital signs, and cardiac rhythms, reporting changes promptly
- Provides pre- and post-procedure patient education and discharge instructions
- Documents all nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately
- Maintains a safe and clean environment, adheres to infection control and safety protocols
- Handles specimens appropriately and ensures proper labeling and documentation
- Participates in performance improvement initiatives and staff education
- Responds effectively to emergencies and follows facility emergency protocols
Knowledge/Abilities/Skills/Expectations
- Strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills
- Proficient in IV therapy, sedation monitoring, and airway management
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
- Familiarity with endoscopic equipment, sterile technique, and procedural workflow
- Competency in electronic documentation and EMR systems
- Commitment to continuous professional development and team collaboration
Qualifications
- Education: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), preferred
- Licenses/Certifications: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice; Basic Life Support (BLS), required within time frame specified in facility policy; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), required within time frame specified in facility policy; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), preferred
