About the Role

The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients. Functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of the organization and demonstrates professional growth and accountability. The staff nurse is responsible for maintaining standards of practice and coordinating patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.

Requirements

• Current license in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License.
• Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification.
• Graduate from a recognized, accredited school of nursing.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred).

Qualifications

Education

• No prior work experience required; new graduates eligible.
• Nursing experience in a hospital setting preferred.
• 1 year in a hospital setting preferred for PRN positions.

Specialty Certifications

• Cardiac Tele: ACLS Certification (required within 180 days for nurse residents or nurses new to specialty).
• Critical Care: ACLS Certification (required within 180 days for nurse residents or nurses new to specialty).
• Dialysis: CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) preferred.
• Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS Certification (required within 180 days for nurse residents or nurses new to specialty; experienced ED nurses have 6 months to obtain PALS).
• Infusion/Oncology: Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification (required prior to independent chemotherapy administration).
• Pediatrics:
  • Identifies, reports, and provides protective measures for high-risk situations (e.g., abuse, neglect, failure to thrive, potential abduction).
  • Piedmont Columbus Hospital: PALS Certification (required within 180 days for nurse residents or nurses new to specialty).
  • Piedmont Athens Hospital: PEARS or PALS Certification (required within 180 days for nurse residents or nurses new to specialty).
• Surgical Services:
  • PreOp/PACU/ENDO/CSU: ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (required within 180 days for nurse residents or nurses new to specialty).
  • OR: BLS only (required).
• Women’s Services:
  • Labor and Delivery: ACLS Certification (required within 180 days for nurse residents or nurses new to specialty), NRP by end of orientation, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months.
  • Mother/Baby: NRP by end of orientation.
  • NICU: NRP by end of orientation.
  • NAT (Newborn Admission Team): NRP by end of orientation.
  • Nursery: NRP by end of orientation.
