RN Critical Care Step Down
About the Role
Corewell Health Beaumont Grosse Pointe Hospital, ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals in the nation, is a Magnet®-designated facility providing exceptional nursing and advanced medical, surgical, emergency, obstetric, and critical care services. This 39-bed Critical Care Step Down unit is committed to high-quality, patient- and family-centered care for populations with various medical conditions, including pulmonary, cardiac, neurological disorders, and post-operative surgical patients requiring a higher level of nursing care. The unit also cares for ventilated tracheostomy patients.
All unit staff attend both hospital and nursing orientation and receive unit-specific orientation, including completion of unit and core competencies. The team consists of RNs and NAs, with teamwork being critical for building a cohesive nursing unit.
Responsibilities
The clinical nurse, under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the nursing process framework to provide professional nursing care incorporating patient-family centered care principles. The Clinical Nurse delivers quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an associate degree or higher (Diploma, A.D.N., B.S.N., M.S.N., DNP/PhD).
- If not minimum BSN-prepared, new graduates or nurses with less than one (1) year of experience must sign an educational contract to complete a BSN within a specified timeframe and adhere to its stipulations.
- RNs must enroll in an accredited BSN program within one (1) year of licensure and complete it within five (5) years (effective April 18, 2023).
- Graduates from non-accredited nursing programs must have at least one year of acute care experience or over two years of experience in a licensed healthcare role (e.g., LPN, EMT) and must have passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
Requirements
- LIC-Registered Nurse (RN) – State of Michigan (required upon hire).
- CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (required upon hire).
- CRT-Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association (required within 180 days for Critical Care, Emergency Care, Pre-Op and PACU, Radiology).
