RN Clinical Nurse II - Labor and Delivery

About the role

UNC REX is seeking a full-time Clinical Nurse II to join our Labor & Delivery team on the night shift (three 12-hour shifts per week). This role provides critical, life-saving care in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, high-volume environment.

About Our Unit

The UNC REX Labor & Delivery unit delivers comprehensive care throughout labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery for both routine and high-risk antepartum and postpartum patients. Our modern, well-equipped setting includes:

• 3-bay OB Emergency Department (OBED)
• 20 Labor Rooms
• 3 Operating Rooms (ORs)
• 3 Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) bays

Nurses collaborate closely with physicians, OB Hospitalists, Nursing Assistants, Surgical Technologists, private practice OB/GYNs, and Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) to support Cesarean sections, emergency procedures, and complex obstetric care.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a safe environment for patients, self, and others; supports patient safety initiatives.
• Identifies and meets personal learning needs; attends relevant education programs.
• Uses patient education materials; assesses readiness to learn and developmental level of patients/families.
• Identifies expected patient outcomes; participates in revising the plan of care with guidance.
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to evaluate and communicate patient care.
• Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex needs, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
• Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required.
• Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient/family needs; consults resources for complex care issues.
• Develops professional growth goals with assistance; achieves objectives within set timeframes.
• Participates in unit goal-setting and performance improvement activities.
• Promotes cost-effective care; provides feedback to coworkers.
• Recognizes and prioritizes care in complex situations; synthesizes assessment data for communication.
• Assesses and anticipates discharge needs; collaborates with patients/families to update the plan of care.
• Addresses cultural and ethnic considerations in patient care; uses multidisciplinary resources.
• Prioritizes tasks for patients with complex problems; stays current with relevant clinical literature.

• Prior Labor & Delivery or inpatient Women’s Services experience, or experience in ICU, Stepdown, or Emergency Department settings with strong critical thinking and adaptability.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited Nursing Program.
• Current NC RN Licensure.
• ACLS, BCLS, and NRP certifications.
• One year of experience working as a licensed RN.

Pay

$34.22 - $48.38 per hour (hiring range, based on experience and internal equity).

Schedule

Full-time, night shift: three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours).
