Registered Nurse II - Labor and Delivery

About the Role

The Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level using the principles and practices of the nursing process. Delivers safe and effective care, interacts with multidisciplinary team members, and coordinates care to achieve desired results in a MAGNET facility.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation).
• Direct and lead assigned team members, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver age/developmentally appropriate care.
• Deliver patient/family-centered care focusing on physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
• Assess, develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan, implement interventions, coordinate care, and evaluate goals and interventions consistent with MUSC policies.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment ensuring patient privacy and professional behavior.
• Function within a professional practice model, participating in shared governance, peer review, and professional development.
• Demonstrate leadership, clinical excellence, effective team skills, autonomous practice, and accountability for actions and critical thinking.
• Coordinate the effective and efficient delivery of patient care services using care management principles.
• Identify clinical priorities and initiate action to improve patient outcomes.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013, with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must enroll in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN degree within four years.
• A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse.
• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Providers.

• Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, and walking (continuous).
• Ability to climb stairs (infrequent).
• Ability to work indoors (continuous), outside in temperature extremes (infrequent), from elevated areas (frequent), and in confined/cramped spaces (frequent).
• Ability to perform job functions from kneeling positions (infrequent), bending at the waist (continuous), twisting at the waist (frequent), and squatting (frequent).
• Ability to perform pinching, gross motor activities, firm grasping, and fine manipulation with fingers and hands (continuous).
• Ability to reach overhead (frequent) and in all directions (continuous).
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted (infrequent).
• Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted (infrequent).
• Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. (infrequent).
• Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force (frequent). Examples include transferring patients, pushing wheelchairs, and pushing stretchers.
• Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one or both eyes (continuous).
• Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance, match or discriminate between colors, and determine depth perception (continuous).
• Good peripheral vision capabilities (continuous).
• Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction (continuous).
• Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (continuous).
• Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations (continuous).
• Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime as required, and in a latex-safe environment (frequent).
• Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions (continuous).
• Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function (selected positions, continuous).
• Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required (selected positions, continuous).

Schedule

36 scheduled weekly hours, working 3-12 hour shifts including weekends and holidays.

Pay

Hourly pay, Health-28 pay grade.
